Project Linus UK

For some time I have been aware of the fantastic organisation, Project Linus UK. They are volunteer-led and aim to provide a sense of security and comfort to sick and traumatised babies, children and teenagers through the provision of homemade patchwork quilts and knitted/crocheted blankets. Volunteers across the UK donate their work, which is delivered to hospitals, hospices and other organisations by a network of local coordinators. I recently made my first quilt for Project Linus UK and have had a wonderful experience. I received a thank you note from my local coordinator along with a photo of the quilt packaged up and ready for delivery. The coordinator in my area logs all quilts and if a recipient family sends a thank you note or photo after the quilt is gifted they are able to share that with the person who made it. My quilt was recently delivered to the Royal United Hospital in Bath and I very much hope that it will soon be giving comfort to a small pers

Linus Love Quilt - A Tutorial

Linus Love Applique Quilt I have long been inspired by creative blogs and dreamed of writing my first quilt pattern/tutorial. I recently decided that now was the time to undertake this and have decided to dedicate it to Project Linus UK. You may have read in my recent blog post about Project Linus UK after I recently gifted my first quilt to them. In 2016 I made two scrappy heart quilts as commissions and thought something similar would be super-cute for a baby/child quilt. I have done some applique quilts for my little Pickle including a money and some owls. A Finished Quilt: Monstera Leaf Block

Monstera Leaf Block Quilt by A Little Sew and Sow Back in October my hubby bought me a Modern Quilter’s Box as a Birthday gift. I was so excited when the box arrived and was not disappointed. It contained a lovely selection of fabric, some patterns and a beautiful pin badge. As a newly converted houseplant fan, I was instantly drawn to a pattern by Anna Marie Galvin for a Monstera Leaf Block. Having recently finished my Christmas sewing I made a start. I wouldn't say my fabric stash is very big but I was delighted that I could pull a selection of green fabrics to use for this quilt. This was a great project for using up some larger scraps – and I don't often use green, so that was a bonus. The pattern was easy to read and use and I have always loved making appliqué quilts.
