A Little Sew and Sow

For some time I have been aware of the fantastic organisation, Project Linus UK. They are volunteer-led and aim to provide a sense of security and comfort to sick and traumatised babies, children and teenagers through the provision of homemade patchwork quilts and knitted/crocheted blankets. Volunteers across the UK donate their work, which is delivered to hospitals, hospices and other organisations by a network of local coordinators. I recently made my first quilt for Project Linus UK and have had a wonderful experience. I received a thank you note from my local coordinator along with a photo of the quilt packaged up and ready for delivery. The coordinator in my area logs all quilts and if a recipient family sends a thank you note or photo after the quilt is gifted they are able to share that with the person who made it. My quilt was recently delivered to the Royal United Hospital in Bath and I very much hope that it will soon be g...

Linus Love Quilt - A Tutorial

Linus Love Applique Quilt I have long been inspired by creative blogs and dreamed of writing my first quilt pattern/tutorial. I recently decided that now was the time to undertake this and have decided to dedicate it to Project Linus UK. You may have read in my recent blog post about Project Linus UK after I recently gifted my first quilt to them. In 2016 I made two scrappy heart quilts as commissions and thought something similar would be super-cute for a baby/child quilt. I have done some applique quilts for my little Pickle including a money and some owls. So here is my tutorial for the Linus Love Quilt – I hope you enjoy making one of these and might even consider donating a quilt to Project Linus (for details of local coordinators in your area click here ). You will need: 1m plain or low volume background fabric (I love plain white) 1m of quilt wadding and 1m of backing fabric (or just 1m of micro fleece) Assorted...

#mygardenrightnow for the Chelsea Fringe

#mygardenrightnow for the Chelsea Fringe Michelle over at VegPlotting is organizing an event for the Chelsea Fringe and is encouraging gardeners to take a photo of themselves in their garden. I haven’t participated in an event like this before so am very pleased to be taking part (thanks Michelle for organizing!). I thought I would use this opportunity to offer you a little peek over the fence into my garden. We moved to our house near Bath 18 months ago and inherited a fairly sparse garden and what was there was in pretty bad shape. We have therefore started with quite a blank canvas. The layout and landscaping is not what we would choose but many of our financial efforts have had to start in the house where there is also a lot of work to do. We have therefore used existing borders, pinched a bit of the grass area to extend our veg plot and filled up an old pond to use as a raised bed. I look forward to the garden becoming...
