Wow, where has
September gone? I am writing this from a few days away in Dorset to share a
little roundup of my crafty activities.
Make
Preserving has
continued this month with my most recent making being some pickled
cucumbers. I didn’t manage to grow any
myself but one of my husband’s colleagues shared a glut.
Bake
I managed to do
some baking this month! At the beginning
of September I made a St Clements cake to take to an afternoon tea party – and
yesterday I made a chocolate hazelnut cake for hubby’s birthday. Both were gluten and dairy free, from Hugh’sLight and Easy book (AFFILIATE LINK).
Sew
I have made a few
gifts this month, including a cushion for someone heading off to university and
this little bag for a special friend, who is celebrating an “0” birthday today
(Happy Birthday if you are reading this!).
I also made my sister-in-law something a bit different as a housewarming
gift but haven’t seen her yet to deliver it so the photo will have to wait. I have been hopeless at making progress with
the Ercol covers and really must stop procrastinating. When I left my last job my lovely colleagues
gave me a gift voucher for a local fabric shop.
Last week I stopping by and chose some beautiful Tilda fabrics and have
started making a Giant Star quilt from Jeni Baker’s tutorial.
Grow
I have harvested
most of the pumpkins from the garden, which are now being either eaten or
cured. There are a few still on the vine
but I will bring those in shortly. The
courgettes are still producing and I have planted out a few spring
veggies. The runner beans have been
doing very well through September and my freezer is full of them for the winter
months.
My plans for
Christmas gifts are coming together and I hope to start making them this month
(I have never been this late before!). I
also hope to make progress on the Giant Star quilt in October and make a
Christmas quilt for charity. What are
your crafty plans for October?
